Tom Brady Makes Cover of Madden NFL 18 Video Game

Five-time Super Bowl winner and future NFL Hall of Famer Tom Brady will adorn the cover of the enormously popular Madden video game franchise this year.

EA Sports which has produced the game since 1998 when the famous former Oakland Raiders coach and broadcasting legend John Madden agreed to have it marketed under his name, announced that Brady would be honored with this year’s edition.

ESPN reports that “Patriots QB Tom Brady to be on cover of ‘Madden NFL 18’”:

Three months after winning his fifth Super Bowl ring, Tom Brady just won an offseason title, too. The New England Patriots quarterback was selected to be on the cover of “Madden NFL 18,” becoming the oldest player to appear on the cover of the popular EA Sports game.

Brady, who will turn 40 in August, grew up a few miles away from where Electronic Arts, or EA, opened in his hometown of San Mateo, California. As a kid he would work out in the EA gym, in part because the company employed a family friend who lived across the street from him.

“When this all came about,” Brady said, “I thought, ‘How cool is that to do this knowing when I was a kid in high school I was tagging along down there, working out where it all started?’ It’s been such a great game over a long period of time. I played it so much when I was younger, a little less now. … My son Jack loves beating up on me.”

Despite the honor there is the infamous “Madden curse” which has seen previous athletes featured on the cover either have subpar seasons or get injured.

While it is a bit eerie – especially considering that Brady’s teammate Rob Gronkowski who was last year’s cover boy got injured – the New England Patriots superstar is scoffing at the curse and if anyone can beat it, it’s Brady.

There will also be a G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time) edition this year.
