ESPN Bringing Back Hank Williams Jr. for Monday Night Football

Beloved country music icon Hank Williams Jr. is returning to Monday Night Football after spending six years in exile.

Williams rendition of the intro was a fixture on MNF on both ABC and ESPN from 1989 until 2011 when he ran afoul of the political correctness police.

The singer whose nickname is Bocephus, dared to opine that former president Barack Obama and then Speaker of the House John Boehner playing golf was like Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu golfing with Adolf Hitler.

While the analogy wasn’t actually made during Monday Night Football he – like so many of Obama’s critics – was accused of being a racist and ESPN rapidly pulled the plug on him.

Now he is back and will be kicking out the jams for the game between the New Orleans Saints and Minnesota Vikings on September 11.

ESPN is bringing Hank Williams Jr. — and all his rowdy friends — back into the Monday Night Football fold, six years after the sports network parted ways with the brash country rocker following controversial remarks involving then-President Barack Obama.

Williams’ new version of “All My Rowdy Friends Are Here on Monday Night,” with his trademark opening: “Are you ready for some football?” will debut before a Sept. 11 game between the New Orleans Saints and the Minnesota Vikings.

“I think it’s a return to our past in that it’s such an iconic song associated with football,” said Stephanie Druley, ESPN’s senior vice president of events and studio production.

“It was the original,” Druley told The USA TODAY NETWORK-Tennessee. “It belongs to Monday Night Football. It really is about returning to what fans know. It’s a Monday night party and that’s what we’re all hoping to get back to.”

However, it didn’t take long for the haters to come out of the woodwork with accusations that ESPN’s decision to bring back Williams was racist:

The perpetually angry left will once likely launch a series of advertiser boycotts of ESPN being that engaging in economic terrorism is one of the top tools in the bag for the so-called Resistance.

Twitter users are already demanding that not only ESPN but parent company Disney be made to pay dearly for this decision.

The cable sports network has come under criticism over being too liberal and engaging in politics rather than the games, falling revenues would seem to validate that argument. Now is a good time for ESPN to stand its ground and reject the bullying of the intolerant.
