Tropical Storm Cindy first to hit U.S. Coast in 2017

The first named storm to strike the U.S. in 2017 is Cindy and is expected to make landfall early Thursday morning along the Texas or Louisiana Gulf Coast.

The storm, located 265 miles south of Morgan City, Louisiana, has maximum sustained winds of 45 MPH and little change in strength is expected before landfall.

Cindy is expected to dump between 6 and 12 inches of rain over Southeastern Lousiana, Southern Mississippi, southern Alabama, and the Florida Panhandle.

A tropical storm warning has been issued from High Island, Texas, to the mouth of the Pearl River. Tropical storm conditions are expected within 36 hours. A tropical storm watch is in effect from west of High Island, Texas, to San Luis Pass, Texas, which means tropical storm conditions are possible within 48 hours.

A storm surge of between 1-3 feet is expected along the coastal portions of the Tropical Storm Warning area.
