Bernie’s Single-Payer Bill Will Lead Democrats Over a Cliff

Senator Bernie Sanders will introduce his single-payer health insurance plan on Wednesday and Democrats are tripping over themselves to sign on.

The Democratic party’s who’s who of 2020 presidential hopefuls has signed on to the plan. Cory Booker, Kirsten Gillibrand, Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren and others have co-sponsored the bill that will likely cause a massive loss of Democrat Congressional seats in 2018 just as Obamacare did in 2010 and beyond.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer even admitted that Democrats misread the mandate the 2008 election had given them and that passing Obamacare was a political mistake. Pushing Obama’s legacy health care bill made it impossible for Democrats to focus on economic recovery which was a much higher priority for working families.

Now, Bernie Sanders and the hyper-progressive extremists in Congress think that pushing an even more government-controlled plan is the way to go.

Sanders’ plan will be a huge target for Republicans and they won’t have to try very hard to hit it. No one will believe liberals when they say “you can keep your doctor” and when it’s pointed out that the government will limit what is or isn’t covered under their plan, “if you like your plan, you can keep it” won’t work a second time either. Then there’s paying for it. The massive tax increases that will come with such a plan won’t be very appetizing to voters.

Another problem for Democrats is that once introduced, it will suck all the air out of the room. All that their supporters will care about is free health care. The marches, protests, riots and on-campus meltdowns will consume the news cycle. Democrats won’t be able to talk about improving the economy, lowering taxes, infrastructure or any of the other issues that Republicans will only be talking about.

Proposing single-payer will certainly excite the liberal base, but only long enough for them to see their hopes dashed when this socialist dream dies on the floor of the Senate – if it ever sees a vote in a Republican-controlled Congress. The failure will demoralize the left just ahead of the 2018 midterm election.

Bernie is leading his party off a cliff and, just like lemmings, they’re following him.
