The Houston Astros were in a must-win situation on Friday night with the New York Yankees hitting on all cylinders with a 3-2 American League Championship Series lead.
Thanks to ace Justin Verlander, the reemergence of a potent offense and a bit of good old-fashioned home cooking, they have earned another must-win game but this time, for all the marbles.
Verlander held the mighty Yankees scoreless through seven innings of clutch pitching and star second baseman Jose Altuve had three runs batted in, including the double that put the Astros on the scoreboard with a lead that they would never relinquish.
Altuve also hit a home run and was clearly the spark that the moribund Astros needed to overcome New York pitching that had shackled them through the last three games.
The seven runs that Houston put up last night were two more than they tallied during their nightmarish road trip to the Bronx.
The Yankees only score was a home run by rookie superstar Aaron Judge who has been a beast in this series.
The winner of tonight’s game will advance to the World Series against the National League Champion Los Angeles Dodgers.
C.C. Sabathia will be pitching for the Yanks while Charlie Morton gets the call for Houston.
The game will be at 8 pm ET at Houston’s Minute Maid Park.
