Lindsey Stirling brings a stirring duality to ‘Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy’

Yeah, it’s early for Christmas seasonals, but you’re not going to want to miss Lindsey Stirling‘s amazing performance of Tchaikovsky’s “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy.”

Lindsey is one part amazing violinist and a second, and equal, part performance artist. With over 10 million YouTube fans, 1.9 billion views and two Billboard Music Awards, she’s brought classical music into the modern entertainment world.

Whether featuring Celtic styling as in “Lost Girls” or the mixture of country and pop in “It Ain’t Me” Stirling uses a combination of incredible musical talent and ballet-esque dance moves to stun.

Lindsey’s most recent release takes a Hooked on Classics approach to Tchaikovsky’s iconic Christmas piece from a musical perspective but she brings an unfamiliar duality to the Sugar Plum Fairy.

In the classic ballet, Sugar Plum is an afterthought to the story. Her dance is near the end and has no relevance to the story – but it is the most recognizable song of the 2-act performance.

The costumes, music and visuals are all absolutely amazing so sit back, ignore the fact that it’s several weeks too early, and enjoy what appears to be an internal battle between an ice queen and a young girl. You won’t be disappointed.
