President Donald Trump starts on Friday his 12-day marathon foreign diplomacy trip through the Pacific Rim, China and Southeast Asia beginning in Hawaii.
The trip includes stops in Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam and the ending in the Philippines on Nov. 13.
“The president’s travel will underscore his commitment to longstanding United States alliances and partnerships, and reaffirm United States leadership in promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific region,” the White House said in a statement.
A Kremlin spokesman said that Russian and American officials were discussing the possibility of a meeting between President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum in Vietnam.
“The importance for international affairs of any contact between the Russian and U.S. presidents can hardly be overestimated,” the spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, told reporters on Friday.
