Tech guru Elon Musk promised last December that his newest company would develop a flamethrower, and now it looks like this might be one promise he’ll follow through on.
Reddit users on several Musk-related subreddits noticed earlier this month that the URL “boringcompany.com/flamethrower” began redirecting to a page with singular password box. One user managed to guess the original password –“flame” — which has since been changed.
Musk hinted in a tweet last year that his new Boring Company would begin developing a flamethrower once he sold enough hats to get the fledgling hole digging company off the ground, or in the ground: “Hats sold out, flamethrowers soon!”
The redditor gained access to the page, which mimics the Boring Company logo, and found a pre-order prompt for a $600 flamethrower instead of a $20 hat. “Prototype pictured above,” the listing reads. “Final production flamethrower will be better.”
One person on a Musk-related subreddit claimed that the page includes a notice that The Boring Company’s flamethrower will begin shipping in April — perhaps April 1. So, it could all be a big ruse, or an effort to poke fun at Musk’s inability to meet deadlines for his Tesla Model S, an electric vehicle that has been plagued by production delays.
