President Donald Trump went after Huma Abedin, James Comey and “others” on Monday saying that they should be in jail.
“Crooked Hillary Clinton’s top aid, Huma Abedin, has been accused of disregarding basic security protocols,” Trump said on Twitter. “She put Classified Passwords into the hands of foreign agents. Remember sailors pictures on submarine? Jail! Deep State Justice Dept must finally act? Also on Comey & others.”
The president referred to jailed U.S. Navy Sailor Kristian Saucier suggesting that there is a double-standard.
Trump lashed out just after the State Department released emails from Abedin’s account that the FBI had found on husband Anthony Weiner’s laptop. Several of the emails were marked “classified.”
Abedin also reportedly forwarded account passwords and classified emails to her personal Yahoo Mail account which, along with those of everyone using the service, was then compromised by hackers.
The president’s comment on James Comey being jailed is likely in reference to the former FBI Director’s release of classified FBI memos in 2017 through a friend widely seen as retaliation after Trump fired him for the mishandling of the Clinton email scandal investigation.
Who are the “others” the president mentioned in his tweet? There’s no way to be certain, but FBI Deputy Director Andrew “Andy” McAbe and FBI agent Peter Strzok might top that list after text messages surfaced alluding to their possible, and illegal, interference in the 2016 presidential election.
