“It was nothing short of treasonous,” said the former CIA Director John Brennan reacting to President Donald Trump’s Monday press conference with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
“Donald Trump’s press conference performance in Helsinki rises to & exceeds the threshold of ‘high crimes & misdemeanors,’ wrote Brennan in a tweet. It’s worth noting ‘high crimes & misdemeanors’ is the constitutional standard for impeaching the president of the United States.
Brennan further implied that Republican lawmakers should support impeaching the president. “Republican Patriots: Where are you?” he said. Brennan has not been shy in criticizing Trump and has been an outspoken critic since he left the agency.
“It was nothing short of treasonous. Not only were Trump’s comments imbecilic, he is wholly in the pocket of Putin,” he continued. “Republican Patriots: Where are you???”
During the press conference with Putin, Trump criticized the investigation from special counsel Robert Mueller and he said he hoped to strengthen relations with Russia. Additionally, Trump further questioned the FBI investigation of Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server. Brennan also called for Trump officials to resign in an appearance on MSNBC on Monday night.
