The U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana, Duane Evans, announced Tuesday that Joel Flores- Gonzales, age 42, a native of Mexico, was sentenced after pleading guilty to a one-count indictment for illegal reentry of a removed alien.
“United States District Court Judge Jay C. Zainey sentenced Flores-Gonzales to eight months of imprisonment, followed by one year of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment fee. The defendant will be surrendered to the custody of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for removal proceedings,” reports the Justice Department.
According to court documents, on March 12, 2018, Flores-Gonzales was found in the United States after having been previously deported from the United States on June 20, 2016.
U.S. Attorney Evans praised the work of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in investigating this matter. Assistant United States Attorney Jon Maestri is in charge of the prosecution.
The sentencing of Flores-Gonzales on Tuesday comes as Immigrations and Customs Enforcement recently announced the successful arrest of 37 illegal aliens in New Jersey.
