A recently published Harvard-Harris poll revealed that only 24% of registered voters in the United States believe the country should have “open borders.”
In the survey of 1,448 registered voters, Harvard-Harris asked, “Do you think we should have basically open borders or do you think we need secure borders?”
24% of respondents said, “we should have basically open borders.” 76% of respondents said, “we need secure borders.”
It’s important to note the results come from a month in which the Trump administration has taken extreme criticism for his enforcement of the ‘zero tolerance’ policy along the southern border.
This survey was conducted online within the United States from June 24-25, 2018 among 1,448 registered voters by The Harris Poll. The results reflect a nationally representative sample. Results were weighted for age within gender, region, race/ethnicity, marital status, household size, income, employment, political party, political ideology, and education where necessary to align them with their actual proportions in the population. Propensity score weighting was also used to adjust for respondents’ propensity to be online.
