Carl Bernstein: ‘the Trump Presidency Is Worse Than Watergate’

Investigative journalist Carl Bernstein came out strongly against President Donald Trump Thursday claiming the Trump presidency is worse than Watergate. In the 1970’s Berstein helped uncover the Watergate scandal that ultimately led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon according to Investors Business Daily.

Appearing on The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, Bernstein stated, “What we are watching in the Trump presidency is worse than Watergate. It’s worse than Watergate, as I say, because the system worked in Watergate.”

During the interview, Bernstein was asked if, during the Watergate scandal, Nixon behaved as anxiously then as Trump is behaving now.

Bernstein slammed Republican lawmakers arguing they have worked to impede and undermine the special counsel investigation

“The heroes in Watergate were Republicans who demanded that the president be held accountable, who demanded that he be transparent, who demanded to know what did the president know and when did he know it, and who conducted bipartisan investigation that led, in fact, to understanding and finding out what Nixon had done, whereas the Republicans on Capitol Hill thus far have done almost everything they can to impede and undermine legitimate investigation. So it’s a totally different and much more dangerous situation,” stated Bernstein.
