Bloomberg’s Gun Control Organization Pledges Another $5 Million To Midterms

by Hanna Bogorowski

The gun control group founded by former New York City mayor and potential 2020 Democratic candidate Michael Bloomberg is launching a $5 million digital ad campaign targeting 15 key House races, specifically ones with incumbent Republicans.

Everytown for Gun Safety, continuing its heavy multi-million dollar midterm spending, is placing $5 million toward a “Not One More” campaign focused on gun safety voter turnout, according to a press release sent on behalf of the organization.

“‘Not one more’ — three simple words that serve as both a statement of principle and a call to action for the growing gun safety movement,” John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety, said. “This urgent ad campaign will inspire even more Americans to head to the polls on November 6 and vote for their local gun-sense champions.”

A few targeted incumbent Republicans include Reps. Dana Rohrabacher of California, Barbara Comstock of Virginia, Mike Coffman of Colorado, Karen Handel of Georgia and Kevin Yoder of Kansas.

One of the digital ads shows “imagery from shooting scenes and a jarring yellow-and-black color scheme inspired by crime scene tape,” the press release states, and hopes to target suburban voters.

Everytown for Gun Control announced a “First Wave” spending campaign on Sept. 17 where it pledged $10 million toward four key state elections in Georgia, Michigan, New Mexico and Nevada.

“This November, Americans can use their voices and their votes to elect lawmakers who will stand up for the safety of our families and communities. Together, we can demand not one more,” said Richard Martinez, a senior associate at Everytown for Gun Safety whose son was killed in the Isla Vista mass shooting in 2014 in California.
