The White House canceled a planned attack on multiple Iranian sites Thursday night because President Trump decided that the carnage would be disproportionate to Iran’s destruction of an unmanned drone.
“On Monday they shot down an unmanned drone flying in International Waters. We were cocked & loaded to retaliate last night on 3 different sights when I asked, how many will die. 150 people, sir, was the answer from a General. 10 minutes before the strike I stopped it, ” Trump tweeted. “Not proportionate to shooting down an unmanned drone.”
“I am in no hurry, our Military is rebuilt, new, and ready to go, by far the best in the world. Sanctions are biting & more added last night,” he added.
Trump’s restraint flies in the face of Democratic Party leaders’ criticisms.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday that Trump’s decisions on Iran might “escalate the situation with Iran and risk serious miscalculations on either side.”
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer told reporters Thursday that Trump “may bumble into a war” with Iran.
The canceled attack comes after Iran shot down a U.S. drone flying in international air space over the Strait of Hormuz and reportedly attacked several commercial vessels transiting the waterway.
