Harris Is Laying Off Staff, Restructuring Campaign: Report

2020 presidential candidate California Sen. Kamala Harris will dramatically restructure her campaign and slash her staffers as she hemorrhages cash, sources and a memo obtained by Politico find.

The changes come as Harris prepares to take on Iowa amidst fears that she cannot compete with her better-funded opponents in the state. Harris will slash staffer’s payrolls, including Campaign Manager Juan Rodriguez’s salary of just over $10,000 a month, Politico reports from the memo.

Rodriguez described an “incredibly competitive resource environment” in the memo as donors compete for donor’s campaign dollars.

“From the beginning of this campaign, Kamala Harris and this team set out with one goal — to win the nomination and defeat Donald Trump in 2020. This requires us to make difficult strategic decisions and make clear priorities, not threaten to drop out or deploy gimmicks,” Rodriguez wrote in the memo, Politico reports.

“Plenty of winning primary campaigns, like John Kerry’s in 2004 and John McCain’s in 2008, have had to make tough choices on their way to the nomination, and this is no different,” Rodriguez added.
