A special moment came when Trump awarded the Medal of Freedom to talk show host Rush Limbaugh who was recently diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer.
First Lady Melania Trump awarded conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh the President Medal of Freedom on behalf of President Donald Trump at the State of the Union address Tuesday evening.
“Almost every American family knows the pain when a loved one is diagnosed with a serious illness. Here tonight is a special man, someone beloved by millions of Americans who just received a Stage 4 advanced cancer diagnosis. This is not good news, but what is good news is that he is the greatest fighter and winner that you will ever meet,” President Trump said to the broadcaster.
“Rush, in recognition of all that you have done for our nation, the millions of people a day that you speak to and you inspire and all of
the incredible work that you have done for charity, I am proud to announce tonight that you will be receiving our country’s highest civilian honor: The Presidential Medal of Freedom,” Trump said Tuesday night.
It appeared to be a total surprise to him. Rush was stunned and brought to tears as was I and many others across this land watching the speech. This was a moment that will go down in history!
Even Fox News’ chief liberal Trump critics Juan Williams and Chris Wallace said that that Trump’s speech was very good but it reminded them of a Trump rally speech especially when all the republicans in the room shouted “four more years” and it sounded the beginning of his campaign for a second term.
Meanwhile, those nasty women in their white outfits and Dems wouldn’t even stand when he talked about giving that young girl a scholarship to the school of her choice or when he touted that 72% of new jobs went to women and how women in the workforce have the lowest unemployment numbers in history. They couldn’t even stand for that and just sat there. Pelosi made faces during the entire speech and she tearing up the speech at the end was disgusting, rude and immature and she had the gall to say it was the courteous thing to do?
Trump concluded his speech with a very patriotic and uplifting comment summarizing everything saying, “This is our glorious and magnificent inheritance. We are Americans, we are pioneers, we are the pathfinders, we settled the new world, we built the modern world and we changed history forever by embracing the eternal truth that everyone is made equal by the almighty hand of God.
America is a place where anything can happen. America is the place where anyone can rise. Here, on this land, on this soil, on this continent, the most incredible dreams come true. This nation is our canvas and this country is our masterpiece. We look at tomorrow and see limited frontiers just waiting to be explored. Our brightest discoveries are not yet known. Our most thrilling stories are not yet told. Our grandest journeys are not yet made. The American age, the American epic, the American adventure has only just begun. Our spirit is still young. The sun is still rising. God’s grace is still shining. My fellow Americans, the best is yet to come. Thank you. Thank you very much.”
President Donald Trump’s job approval rating has risen to 49%, his highest in Gallup polling since he took office in 2017 while a new Zogby poll has him over 50%.
Trump’s approval rating has risen because of higher ratings among both Republicans and independents. His 94% approval rating among Republicans is up six percentage points from early January and is three points higher than his previous best among his fellow partisans. The 42% approval rating among independents is up five points, and ties three other polls as his best among that group. Democratic approval is 7%, down slightly from 10%.
The 87-point gap between Republican and Democratic approval in the current poll is the largest Gallup has measured in any Gallup poll to date, surpassing the prior record, held by Trump and Barack Obama, by one point.
The Jan. 16-29 poll was conducted in the midst of the Senate impeachment trial that will likely result in the president’s acquittal. The poll finds 52% of Americans in favor of acquitting Trump and 46% in favor of convicting and removing him from office.
In addition to possibly reflecting sentiment regarding his impeachment, Trump’s increased approval rating may also result from other issues, including:
Sixty-three percent of Americans now approve of the way Trump is handling the economy, up six points from the prior reading in November. It is the highest economic approval rating not only for Trump, but for any president since George W. Bush enjoyed stratospheric job approval ratings in the first few months after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Trump’s ratings for handling foreign affairs (47%) and foreign trade (50%) are also his best to date.
