HIDALGO, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations (OFO) at the Hidalgo International Bridge arrested a 22-year-old man from Alton, Texas in connection with a failed drug smuggling attempt of alleged methamphetamine worth $631,400.
“Amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, our officers continue their steadfast commitment towards keeping dangerous drugs out of our country,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Port of Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas.
On July 24, 2020, a CBP officer at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge referred the man from Alton, a U.S. citizen, and the tan 2008 Nissan Sentra he was driving for further inspection. The secondary examination, which included utilizing non-intrusive imaging (NII) equipment resulted in the discovery of 12 packages of alleged methamphetamine weighing 31.5 pounds (14.32 kg) concealed within the rear tires of the Sentra.
CBP OFO seized the narcotics, the vehicle and arrested the driver who was ultimately turned over to the custody of agents with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) who continue with the investigation.
