Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced Tuesday that the statewide mask mandate is lifted and that businesses will be able to return to 100% capacity.
In defiance of CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky, who said Monday that she realizes people are fed up with restrictions.
“I know people are tired; they want to get back to life, to normal,” Walensky said. “But we’re not there yet.”
Abbot said during the announcement that COVID hadn’t disappeared but that “state mandates are no longer needed.
The statewide mask mandate was immediately removed and the capacity limits are due to be removed next Wednesday.
Texas joins Arizona, Alaska, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Wyoming, as states with no statewide mask mandate in place.
