Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers thwarted two smuggling attempts of methamphetamine worth an estimated $3,430,273 discovered in two vehicles from Mexico crossing at two separate international bridges
At the International Bridge in Hidalgo, Texas, a 34-year-old Mexican woman was arrested Wednesday after a secondary inspection revealed 24 packages of methamphetamine weighing more than 114 pounds in the 2010 Ford Escape she was driving. The narcotics and vehicle were seized. The street value of the drugs is approximately $2.3 million dollars. The driver was turned over to Homeland Security who will continue the criminal investigation.
“This interception of hard narcotics is yet another example of our officers’ continued dedication to upholding our border security mission by interdicting dangerous drugs at the first line of defense, our country’s border,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez.
The smuggler is a resident of Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico, which sits opposite Hidalgo, Texas, USA.
Border officers also intercepted a large load of methamphetamine at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge on Wednesday.
Customs and Border Protection officers referred a 2020 Mitsubishi, driven by a 24-year-old U.S. citizen, for secondary inspection where they discovered 25 packages of methamphetamine worth an estimated $1,147,273 in the vehicle.
