Drug Agents Raid Washington Football Team’s Training Facility While Head Trainer Placed On Administrative Leave

Federal agents raided the Washington Football Team’s training facility and the home of the head athletic trainer, a local news outlet reported.

Trainer Ryan Vermillion was placed on administrative leave due to an ongoing investigation, the team announced according to NBC 4 Washington. At least 12 Drug Enforcement Administration agents (DEA) were seen entering the trainer’s home.

“Ryan Vermillion has been placed on administrative leave due to an ongoing criminal investigation that is unrelated to the team,” the team said in a statement Monday, according to NBC 4.

The searches occurred on Friday afternoon at the INOVA Sports Performance Center in Ashburn, Virginia, and at Vermillion’s home, according to NBC 4.

The reason for the investigation is still unknown and team officials are working to get more information, according to NBC 4.

Washington Football Team’s Head Coach, Ron Rivera, worked with Vermillion for nine years for the Carolina Panthers and says he still has trust in the head trainer, according to the team’s website.

“The only thing I can say about Ryan is, I know who Ryan is. Last year I trusted Ryan with my health and I would do it again,” Rivera said in an interview with NBC Washington.

“We’ll stick to the statement that’s been made, and we’ll focus in on playing football and try to stick to that,” Rivera said in the interview when asked whether players have inquired about the investigation.
