Opinion: MSM now pushing unproven antivirals after previous arguments against antivirals

On Friday, mainstream media outlets were pushing the story about Pfizer’s antiviral medication Paxlovid. Pfizer shared that the pill cut the risk of serious COVID-19 cases by 89%. The report sounds encouraging but is misleading entirely.

First of all, the study by Pfizer was discontinued very early. According to the AP report, only 775 adults were studied as part of the Pfizer report. The AP also shared, “an independent group of medical experts monitoring the trial recommended stopping it early, standard procedure when interim results show such a clear benefit.”

But that’s not the case with typical drug trials. Typically the trials consist of much more research and investigation into the safety and efficacy of the medication. Instead, Pfizer shared very little data regarding the side effects and risks of the medication.

The second thing that the mainstream media wants to bury is the fact that this medication was administered in coordination with another antiviral medication called ritonavir. Ritonavir is an antiviral that is typically given to HIV patients.

Mainstream media outlets railed against the possible use of antiviral medications for the treatment of COVID in the past. They have been critical of the consideration of Ivermectin, another antiviral medication, because it was being used outside of the typical use in animals.

The medications are not from the same class of drugs, but they are both antivirals that stop the replication of a foreign pathogen in the body. Ivermectin has shown promise in some circles for the treatment of COVID, but was heavily scrutinized by the radical left-wing media and the Democrats. All because it was suggested as an answer by the right.

Now that the antivirals are being suggested by the big pharma outlets, the mainstream media is pushing the medications. That’s certainly not to say that the medicine does not work. Other oral medications have shown benefits against COVID, including some that the mainstream media has spread propaganda against.

In this instance, there is not very much data on the medication to support it. Yet, the mainstream media will spread the reports that it is amazing. We will stop the research simply because we got a few data points we like. Not to mention the fact the Biden administration has millions of doses on order already.

They are pushing for approval of the medication by the end of the year. They claim that the medication has been in development for two years, but we are only allowed to short term test it and should simply accept the limited trial results as a means to prove it works. That sounds like the same story they wanted to spread about the vaccines, doesn’t it?

Are they now going to mandate the medication for Americans as well? Are they going to force the unvaccinated to take the medication amid their weekly tests? Are we going to force the vaccinated to take it as an additional safeguard?

Where does the madness stop? The story told was that nothing was going to be mandated, but we all see how that has turned out. If the medication works, that’s great and it could be a benefit. But it needs to be studied thoroughly and proven effective. Otherwise, Americans just see this as another experiment.
