‘Give Parents A Voice’: Republican Back-To-School Videos Target Battleground States Where Democratic Policies Failed

The Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) created five videos targeting Democratically-run states and exposing their “destructive education policies,” according to a press release obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Colorado, Maine, Minnesota, Nevada and Oregon are the states targeted by RSLC’s videos where there are opportunities to “flip chambers,” according to the videos obtained by the DCNF. The videos focus on a need for an increase in transparency and more parental involvement in the states’ education systems.

“Unnecessary lockdowns, catastrophic learning restrictions and a divisive curriculum: parents across the country have learned the hard way in recent years the consequences of letting Democrats use public education to advance their political agenda,” Dee Duncan, RSLC President, shared in a statement with the DCNF. “While Democrat politicians think that they know what is best for students, state Republicans will always give parents a voice instead of vilifying them for wanting to have a say in their child’s education and future.”

Each video highlights four points in the Democratic education agenda including, “less parental involvement, less transparency, fewer graduation requirements and more power for the teachers’ unions.” The conservative agenda focuses on getting “back to the basics, accountability and parental input.”

Nevada reportedly ranked 49th in the nation for “educational attainment” in 2022, according to a video that cited a KLAS News article. Colorado saw “significant decreases” beginning in the 2019-2020 school year to its standardized test scores, the video highlighted, citing a KDVR News article.

Minnesota students’ proficiency rates in math and reading have dropped 11 percentage points since 2019, the video stated and Pioneer Press originally reported. Oregon passed legislation in 2021 which lowered the graduation standards for high school students, the video showed quoting a KGW8 News article.

Bangor Daily News reported that the abrupt switch to remote learning due to the pandemic caused Maine students’ academics to suffer, which the Maine video showed.

“The Republican plan gives our kids what they need to thrive,” the videos stated.
