Out-Of-Control Truck At Christmas Parade Leaves Little Girl Dead, 20-Year-Old In Handcuffs

A 20-year-old man was charged after the truck he was driving fatally hit an 11-year-old as she performed in a Saturday Christmas parade in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Police said the pickup truck, driven by Landen Christopher Glass of Virginia, was towing a float in the parade, with warrants stating that its brakes were inadequate to control its movement, the Fox 8 reported. Authorities charged Glass with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, careless and reckless driving, improper equipment, unsafe movement and carrying a firearm in a parade, according to CBS 17.

CBS 17 personnel reported hearing the driver yell prior to the crash that he couldn’t stop because of a brake issue.

A warrant revealed that Glass, who reportedly cooperated with detectives after the incident, was cited in his home state in 2021 for improper equipment, speeding and lacking a vehicle inspection, Fox 8 reported. He claimed that he works with W & M Sales and Service on car safety systems, according to the warrant.

The parade was cancelled after the girl was hit, according to Fox 8. Her dance organization expressed grief in a Facebook post the same day.

“This morning’s events have devastated us,” CC & Co. Dance Complex stated. “We also know many of our young ones witnessed this tragedy and that is hard to fathom as well.”

Monday marked one year since Darrell Brooks killed six people and injured dozens more by driving an SUV through Waukesha, Wisconsin’s Christmas parade. Brooks was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on Nov. 16, having been convicted of six counts of first degree intentional homicide and 70 other counts.

The Raleigh Police Department did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
