Feds Indict New York City Mayor Eric Adams: REPORT

Federal prosecutors secured an indictment against Democratic New York City Mayor Eric Adams, The New York Times reported late Wednesday night, citing people familiar with the matter.

The indictment is currently sealed and details are expected to be announced on Thursday, the NYT reported. He is the first NYC mayor to be charged while in office.

Federal agents seized Adams’ electronic devices on November 10, 2023, days after agents raided the home of his top fundraiser to execute a search warrant. The FBI had been investigating his campaign to determine whether it worked with the Turkish government and accepted illegal contributions, Politico reported.

Adams reportedly had close ties to Turkey since his tenure as borough president in the Bronx, according to the outlet.

“I always knew that If I stood my ground for New Yorkers that I would be a target—and a target I became,” Adams said in a statement, according to the NYT. “If I am charged, I am innocent and I will fight this with every ounce of my strength and spirit.”

Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York called on Adams to resign Wednesday, citing the federal probes, National Review reported.

“Nonstop investigations will make it impossible to recruit and retain a qualified administration,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “For the good of the city, he should resign.”
