The U.S. Senate voted to advance President Trump’s “Big, Beautiful, Bill” to debate, clearing an immediate hurdle, but the legislation faces scrutiny from House Republicans as it heads to reconciliation – and that’s only if it gets the Senate’s nod for final passage.
“Tonight we saw a GREAT VICTORY in the Senate….”
The Bill was moved on to debate by a 51-49 margin in a vote that lasted nearly four hours.
Senate Democrats are doing the silly things they always do to stop something they can’t stop. Chuck Schumer has ordered a full reading of the bill on the Senate floor. The reading is expected to take about 15 hours as staffers read the mundane text to … no one.
After the reading, a cascade of votes on proposed amendments will take place, and after that, an up-or-down vote to pass.
If the bill passes the Senate, it will head to a reconciliation process to remediate differences between the Senate and House versions. At that time, the reconciled bill will need to pass both houses of Congress again.
Trump wants this bill signed by July 4th, less than one week from today. The Senate parliamentarian, an unelected bureaucrat, cut several provisions, and Senate Republicans made their own changes that House members have noted may be problematic.
