Bill Maher Says It’s Become ‘Less Dangerous’ To Tell ‘Truth’ Under Trump Than Biden

Comedian Bill Maher told actress Drew Barrymore on Monday’s episode of his “Club Random” podcast that it has become safer to be honest under President Donald Trump’s administration compared to former President Joe Biden’s.

The Biden administration endeavored to censor so-called disinformation online, including by working with Facebook in 2021 to flag posts about so-called vaccine disinformation and to suppress the theory that COVID-19 originated from a lab in Wuhan, China. Barrymore praised Maher on his podcast for his bravery in saying what he believes is “the truth,” asserting that he has been doing so “before it was so dangerous.”

“Still dangerous,” Maher replied, prompting Barrymore to claim “it is just way too dangerous now.”

“It’s slightly less dangerous than it was two years ago because we did have a vibe change. And because the Democrats lost so badly in 2024,” Maher said. “The blush is off the rose on left-wing censorship and, ‘Oh my god, you can’t say that.’ Stop telling me what I can do, what I can say, what I can think, who my heroes are supposed to be. Just get the fuck off of me. Get back up off of me.”

He added that the left’s censoriousness is one of his main problems with the political wing.

“That is a lot of just what, viscerally, is going on with me when I have issues with the left. Just get the fuck off of me,” Maher said. “First of all, I don’t believe you. You’re not better. You’re just — you’re a lot of posers. Not all of you, but just get the fuck off of me.”

President Donald Trump vowed to end censorship during his 2024 presidential campaign.

Podcast host Joe Rogan also said on an August 1 episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience” that Republicans are now the party that supports free speech rather than Democrats.

“[T]he Democrats have developed this sort of like cultlike idea of what everyone should accept. And what’s normal and what’s not normal. And what needs to be elevated in our population. And what needs to be ignored,” Rogan said. “And it’s just like, god damn, you’re ruining it for everybody that thinks in a left way. Like anybody who’s reasonable — like a reasonable left-thinking person, which is most artists, by the way. And then you get to this point where you’re like, ‘No, I can’t go along with you on all these things.’”
