Virginia Mother of 5 Too Dangerous for Neighbor

Karyann Parkinson is not someone you will hear about on the nightly news, and certainly does not appear on any ICE wanted posters. According to one of her narco-neighbors, Karyann Parkinson is one dangerous woman who may not deserve to keep her children. Virginia is technically not a sanctuary state, so there are certain places that Karyann may not be able to venture, and that includes the hallowed halls of justice of the messed up Commonwealth of Virginia. As I tell her story, keep in mind that some judge, somewhere in the Commonwealth, will decide to let an illegal alien go free so that ICE cannot apprehend them, but this mother of five is now on the Virginia Child Abuse and Neglect list, where she will stay for the next seven years. I’ll touch on the ramifications of that in a minute.

Karyann Parkinson recently moved to Virginia from Utah so she could attend William and Mary Law School. She graduated from BYU in 2012 and has been a family life educator. She spent 3 years as a live-in behavioral specialist at a residential treatment center. There, she and her husband, also a family therapist, oversaw the care of 35 girls. This couple, and certainly Karyann, do not take parenting lightly. Unfortunately, one of their neighbors sees Karyann as a threat to her children and had to step in, or over the line.

One day, Karyann had taken a bike ride through their gated community with her five-year-old son, Sam. Sam wanted to go back to the community pond a half mile from home to gather more goose feathers, which he loved to collect. Karyann decided that Sam could make the trip by himself. Her narco-neighbor did not agree, and, upon seeing Sam walking alone, called security. Security took it further and called Child Protective Services (CPS), who recovered Sam and returned him home. CPS escalated the situation by telling Sam that his mother had done something terribly wrong and put him in danger. This talk frightened Sam and made the whole afternoon very emotional.

CPS filed charges against Karyann for neglect and endangering a minor. She was sentenced to six months in jail, which was suspended, but the guilty verdict stands, and she has been placed on the Child Abuse and Neglect List for seven years. This penalty will prevent Karyann from volunteering for any activities at her children’s school and may prevent her from finishing her degree, taking the Bar Exam, and becoming a lawyer. Because of a parenting decision one of her neighbors objected to, Karyann’s life is forever changed.

It is so ironic that this happened at the same time that a woman from New York was found not guilty for killing her two children, and a woman in Plymouth, MA, may also be found not guilty or the trial end in a hung jury; this Virginia Mom has had her life turned upside down because of a narco-neighbor. With the facts put on the table, I have to believe that nobody can justify that young Sam was ever in danger. This penalty is way out of line, and I hope that an appeal will be forthcoming and Karyann can move on with her life as planned.
