Are Perception and Reality Forever Divided?

We hear about divides a lot these days, whether it is the country, friends, or, maybe worse, families. I realize that the beliefs of the two parties in America may never have been so diametrically opposed, and that support for each side has never been so deeply entrenched, but I think much of the problem lies in the incredible gap between perception and reality. Let me give you a wonderful example from the recent Times/Press Herald/Siena poll that contacted 600 likely voters in Maine:

“I think the Republican Party is corrupt and is more like the mafia,” Itchkawich said. “For me, it’s just hard to believe that everything that I love about America is being trashed.”

That line came from a Mainer’s mouth, but it sounds like it was echoed directly from the lips of Rachel Maddow on MSNOW or Brianna Kellar on CNN. They may have likely come from network cast-offs, now YouTube podcasters Joy Reid and Don Lemon. It definitely could have emanated from Hasan Piker, who is possibly the most dangerous voice against Democracy on the internet, with over 10 million followers. He is a staunch supporter of the DSA, and despite the US embargo on Cuba, he recently visited there with other far-left activists to interview locals.

Let’s look at some of the views from Democrat and DSA candidates and see which side is working overtime to trash this country:

a. Take down our borders and abolish ICE. This is almost as far as you need to go for our sovereignty and safety to no longer be concerns.

b. Many still want to defund police and close all prisons, claiming incarceration does more harm to society than allowing murderers, rapists, and child molesters to intermingle with society.

c. They want to do away with the Electoral College, which will focus our election outcomes on the heavily populated regions like NewYork, California, and Illinois while rendering silent the voters of New Hampshire or Iowa.

d. They want to allow non-citizens to vote, making citizenship meaningless, and they oppose Voter ID or any law to strengthen the voting process. It has been weeks since the California primary, and they have yet to finish counting the votes.

e. They are against tax breaks and want to place the burden for the cost of our country solely on the backs of the “rich,” which is a bar that keeps dropping.

f. They want free healthcare, childcare, college, bussing, even groceries. In other words, they want the government to control and support you from the crib to the grave.

g. Speaking of the crib and the grave, they want abortion access for minors and to push euthanasia as an alternative to long-term healthcare.

h. They want transgender medication and surgery available to minors without parental consent, and they want parental wishes out of public schools. They cannot even say mother and father and are replacing those terms with gestating and non-gestating adults.

i. They oppose failing grades in school, as more children drop out and fewer can read or do basic math when they graduate.

j. They believe all Republicans are Nazis, Fascists,  or bigots while they are looking to elect a Senator with a Nazi tattoo, and more Democrats are supporting Socialism every year.

k. Let’s not overlook their hatred of Israel and Capitalism

I could go on, but I think I have made my case as to which Party hates America and wants to burn her down and start over. The press/media is protected by the First Amendment, but they still have a responsibility to the truth. As soon as they interject their opinion into the equation, they are no longer reporting the news; they are writing editorials. The Left is most at fault for tainted information, but that is expected as they have far more outlets. FOX is sometimes guilty, but the line between news and opinion is about as clear as the difference between Bret Baier and Greg Gutfeld. We will always have differences, but they should lead to debate, and not to berate. Bill Maher explained it well when he said you can hit a Republican hard with arguments, and they will answer them with civility. The Left does not want to discuss at all. They would rather protest, march, dance, and sing than have a conversation about what they stand for. We cannot constrain the press, but we have to call them out when they stray. We need far more reality than perception on both sides. That will be a good start to close our divide.

Primary: Here’s a custom editorial-style illustration I generated to capture the core theme of “Perception vs. Reality” in the American divide. It features a split composition: one side vibrant and unified under the flag/Constitution (representing clarity and founding principles), the other distorted by media shadows and protest elements. Bold, professional, and blog-ready.

Second image: Here’s a new custom illustration: A dramatic, classical-style balance scale where “TRUTH” (with American flag, Constitution, and clear light) outweighs or balances “OPINION” (distorted media screens, protest signs, and shadows). Editorial patriotic style, high detail, blog-ready.
