We have found the bottom of Graham Platner’s closet of shame, at least for now. Democrats from across the spectrum and the country have rallied their support, not necessarily for the man, but for the tool to beat Susan Collins. In Graham Platner, the Left had a candidate that they hoped would not self-implode before the votes were counted. As long as he won, they could bury the bodies later. When Chuck Schumer was asked about Platner’s character, he could only repeat, “We will beat Susan Collins, and take back the Senate.” When Ro Khanna (D-CA) was asked the same question, his absurd reply was, “He hasn’t done anything that crosses my red line.” Well, it looks like Platner just stuck more than a toe across the line. Graham Platner has been accused of rape by one of his victims. Graham Platner is a dead man walking.
All the big guns went out of their way to support him. Most notable are Bernie Sanders (D-VT) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), and they both owe the Democrats and America for not vetting this deplorable cretin. They used their stature in the Party to influence the Maine voters to choose Platner as the best option for the future. They overlooked the Hitler tattoo, the social media posts, and even the alleged assaults and kidnapping of female acquaintances, but they drew the line at rape. Graham Platner had finally gone over the line.
Platner remained defiant on Monday, vehemently denying all the stories. He said that every act was consensual, and even with support dropping by the minute, donors reneging on pledges, and being forced to cancel multiple appearances, he still looked into the camera, trying to convince all that he was their man to represent them. It was not working. Those who supported him were now urging him to drop out before the July 13 deadline.
Platner had scheduled three town halls for Sunday and Monday night in Augusta, Gorham, and Sanford, Maine; however, all three events have been removed from the event website. Platner is no longer a candidate savior for the Democratic Party. He is a pariah whom nobody wants to see or hear from. He has until the 13th to withdraw, and his ego may take every minute of time until then.
So what are the next steps for him and the Democrats? Platner should immediately withdraw, apologize, admit to all of the allegations, and go into hiding for quite some time. The Party can replace him with anyone of its choosing by state law. Janet Mills is the obvious replacement, and this would be a great situation for Republicans and the state of Maine. Should she run, she would be open to far more scrutiny than she has had as Governor. Her past will be exposed,, as will all of her and her brother’s activities. Both have been profiting from illicit activities, and the surface has barely been scratched in the fraud situation in Maine, which is very much like that in Minnesota and California. The Platner story may be coming to a close, but the drama of the next few months, as we reelect Susan Collins to the Senate, is not.
Author’s Note: Graphics created by Grok AI. Grok’s comments about the images: Your piece captures the intense pressure and strategic calculations on the Democratic side—prioritizing a winnable Senate seat over loyalty to the nominee. Platner has been defiant so far but is isolated. Whether he drops out (and who replaces him) or fights on will play out quickly in the next week. This fits a pattern where personal allegations can torpedo candidacies, regardless of prior vetting.
