Vandals Leave ‘Blood on Her Hands’ Message Outside Susan Collins’ Maine Office Hours Before Polls Open

Vandals struck Sen. Susan Collins’ Biddeford, Maine, office for the second time in about six weeks, leaving red paint and a message on the sidewalk hours before polls opened.

Biddeford police got a call shortly before 11 p.m. Monday reporting vandalism outside the Republican’s office at 160 Main St., WMTW reported. Police said the case is under investigation.

Photos shared by the Collins campaign show the words “blood on her hands” painted on the sidewalk in front of the office door, beside a pool of red paint. Some paint appears to have splattered onto the front doors.

No one got into the building, WGME reported. The office was open for business as Maine voters headed to the polls Tuesday.

Collins’ chief of staff, Katie Brown, said the vandals would not get what they wanted. She described the attack as part of a pattern aimed at the senator and the people who work for her.

“This is another incident in a series and the second attempt at our Biddeford office to intimidate the senator and her staff. These tactics are disturbing, but not effective,” Brown said. “Our staff is undeterred and on the job.”

A Pattern of Attacks

In late September, someone spray-painted the vulgar slur “Trump whore” in red on the same office door, Fox News reported. Collins later said in a radio interview that her Bangor home had been egged about a week earlier.

The Biddeford office sits near the scene of a July shooting in which an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer killed 26-year-old Colombian national Johan Sebastián Guerrero. Days later, protesters barged through the office’s front door chanting “vote her out.”

Collins’ Democratic opponent, former Maine Senate President Troy Jackson, condemned Monday night’s vandalism in a statement to Fox News Digital. He had also condemned the September attack on the office.

“There’s no place for this in Maine. Vandalism and intimidation are wrong, full stop,” Jackson said. “Senator Collins and her staff should be able to do their jobs without anyone defacing their office, and I condemn whoever did this.”

Collins is seeking a sixth term, something no Maine senator has ever won, according to WMTW. Jackson became the Democratic nominee at a special convention in July after primary winner Graham Platner dropped out amid sexual assault allegations.

The race is one of the closest in the country. A recent Fox News poll showed Collins and Jackson tied at 49%, and Democrats are counting on Maine as they try to win back the Senate.

Maine polls close at 8 p.m. Eastern. Election officials there use ranked-choice voting in federal races, so if no candidate wins a majority of first-choice votes, the final result could take days.

Collins has held the seat since 1997. In 2020, she won reelection by nearly nine points despite trailing in most public polls, and WABI reported police are still investigating Monday night’s attack.
