‘Hermine’ forecast to soak Florida and water-logged south

**This content is out of date – Updated forecast HERE**

A tropical wave is moving from the Caribbean towards Florida and if it gains strength, could pose a heavy wind and rain hazard to the rain-drenched south.

The system has a 60% chance of developing into a tropical depression or named storm within the next two days, according to the National Hurricane Center. If it gets a name, it would be Hermine (Her-MEEN), the 8th named storm of the 2016 Atlantic hurricane season.

Longer range models are forming consensus around a Florida landfall.

Invest 99-l’s last reported position was 20.8N 68.6W, traveling WNW at 20 mph and having maximum sustained winds of 45 mph.

The storm has a 60% chance of strengthening into a tropical depression or tropical storm and is expected to affect Florida late Sunday or early into Monday.
