A January 22nd survey showed that most Americans agree with President Donald Trump – America should come first.
A Rasmussen Reports telephone and online survey found that 52% of Likely U.S. Voters agree with Trump’s statement, “From this day forward, a new vision will govern our land. From this day forward, it’s going to be only America first. America first,” while only 37% disagreed with Trump’s sentiment.
Differentiating his type of nationalism from nation-building, Trump said in his inaugural speech that “We do not seek to impose our way of life on anyone but rather to let it shine as an example,” which 69% of voters agreed with and only 18% disagreed.
Democrats were much less likely that Republicans to put America up as a shining example for the world as a stunning 60% of democrats oppose Trump’s America First policy.
The poll points out ideological divides. Even though only 29% believe that free trade agreements have benefitted the U.S., a huge number who identify with the left oppose his American First strategy.
