President Donald Trump donated his entire White House salary for the second quarter to the Department of Education.
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Department of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos made the announcement at Wednesday’s White House press briefing – the first one to be held on camera in more than a week.
The donation will be used to hold a STEM-based camp at the Department of Education to “encourage as many children as possible to explore STEM fields in the hope that many develop a passion for these fields,” DeVos told reporters. “I thank the president, once again, for this generous gift.”
Donald Trump wrote the check for $100,000.00 to the department which is one-fourth of the $400,000 the president is to earn according to Title 3 of the U.S. Code.
The president’s first quarter salary went to the Department of the Interior where it was used to fund Antietam battlefield restoration projects. The president Donated over $78,000 to the battlefield and others joined in to bring the total donated to over $260,000.
Trump had promised to donate his entire presidential salary back to the people and with today’s donation to promote science, technology, engineering and math for students, he has once again kept a campaign promise.
