WATCH: Snow Falls In Northern Florida For The First Time In Almost Thirty Years

by Amber Randall

Snow greeted northern Floridians for the first time in almost thirty years Wednesday as a winter storm hits Florida, Georgia and other parts of the United States.

Winter Storm Grayson caused small flurries to fall in the notoriously warm state, putting a total of 0.1 inches of snow on the ground, reports Time. The snow stopped in the middle of the afternoon Wednesday, but Tallahassee officials still warned people to be careful while driving on the roads.

“You can go a generation here and not see snow,” Jeff Fournier, a National Weather Service meteorologist, said. “In fact, from the year 1900 through at least 1950, there was no measurable snow. Up north in New England, they take it for granted.”

Grayson is also expected to bring another wave of freezing cold temperatures to northeasterners Friday and Saturday.

At least nine deaths have been attributed to cold weather in the U.S. this winter.
