Review: Godzilla: King of The Monsters

Godzilla: King of the Monsters is not your ordinary Godzilla movie but rather a sequel to 2014’s Godzilla and touches of 2017’s Kong: Skull Island. Fans of the Godzilla franchise will recognize all your favorite monsters: Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, Ghidorah the three-headed monster only meaner, badder, more ferocious looking and more gratuitous than you are used to seeing them.

Monarch, an exploratory, expedition organization featured in Kong Skull Island, has discovered 17 monsters in various states of preservation around the world. They are monitoring them trying to study which ones are here to protect us and which ones are here to destroy us. The planet is dotted with secretive outposts run by the“crypto-zoological agency” Monarch, and the government is hell-bent on enacting a plan to kill the remaining monsters.

One of the scientists, Dr. Mark Russell, has produced a machine called Orca that sends out a calming effect so the monsters don’t awaken. His wife, Dr. Emma Russell who he is divorced from and has his young teenaged daughter team up with another evil scientist who both believe that mankind is destroying the planet with overpopulation, pollution and wars and they want to release one of the monsters to equalize the balance. She eventually does that and releases Ghidorah the three-headed dragon and it wreaks havoc upon the land and also releases the other monsters around the world which it controls.

There are some interesting fights with Mothra and Rodan and Ghidorah’s three heads breathing wild fire everywhere.

The scientists eventually come to the conclusion that they have to wake Godzilla using a thermonuclear bomb at the bottom of the ocean. Godzilla emerges and pursues a wild gut-wrenching battle with Ghidorah both breathing fire all over the place and at each other. As one of the scientists says, “Thank God he’s on our side.”

Godzilla: King of the Monsters is a good movie for monster movie fanatics, but why did they film it at night which made it difficult to see some of the action sequences and why did they have to have it raining which made it more difficult to see?

There is another sequel coming out in 2020 called Godzilla vs. King Kong which has the same evil scientist in it and is about both monsters fighting while scientists try to figure out a way to destroy them both.
