Biden-Harris Admin Recalls Hundreds Of Electric Buses Amid Fire Concerns

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) issued a warning Wednesday about 483 electric transit buses being recalled over safety defects, according to a safety advisory.

Phoenix Motorcars is voluntarily recalling Proterra 800V catalyst vehicles from 2020 to 2021 and ZX5 Proterra transit buses from 2020 to 2022 over concerns that they could be prone to catching fire, according to an advisory from the FTA. The vehicles were first recalled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in September over issues with their radiator fan electrical circuits overheating, which is a potential fire hazard, according to a Sept. 5 report.

A customer reported that their Proterra bus started smoking in July 2021, and a second incident with a smoking vehicle occurred in January 2024, according to a report from Smart Cities Dive. Phoenix Motorcars obtained Proterra’s transit buses after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in August 2023.

U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm faced criticism in 2021 over her owning shares of Proterra, which was seen as a conflict of interest since the company had a direct stake in the department’s work. Granholm did not sell her shares in Proterra until after the House Oversight Committee opened an investigation into her ownership stake in the company in May 2021.

The Biden-Harris administration has led a green energy push to implement electric vehicles across the nation. The administration’s goal of building 500,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the U.S. by 2030 has faced major delays.

There have been various issues with the rollout of electric buses, including a Maryland county’s bus program resulting in millions of dollars of ‘wasteful spending’ due to mechanical issues and multiple reports of electric buses across the nation catching on fire. California’s Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) is also transitioning to electric school buses amid high levels of substandard academic performance in the district.

The U.S. EV market has been marred with lackluster customer demand. Ford announced in April that it was delaying production of a new EV line, and various other American automakers have abandoned their EV goals.

Phoenix Motorcars did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.

  1. Biden admitted last year that his signature “Inflation Reduction Act” has/had nothing to do with inflation but is “the largest “Green” spending bill in U.S. history and Kamala was the deciding vote. Here’s just a little part of it:
    “The cost to American taxpayers has been exorbitant and it doesn’t even include the fact that the administration is subsidizing the EV industry with a staggering $15.54 billion. That is part of a Department of Energy (DOE) program focused on retooling existing factories for the transition to EVs, which supports good jobs and a just transition to electric cars, according to the agency.” Yet even with all that government money, Ford estimates to lose 3 billion on EV sales this year and estimates they are losing $132,000 on each electric vehicle they sell.
    In a separate spending fiasco the government has a charger initiative that is mainly funded by the “Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Discretionary Grant Program. Of course “discretionary” means they can give the money to whomever they want. So far in 2 1/2 years with 7.5 billion taxpayer dollars they have built 8 EV charging stations.

    Not surprisingly, Biden’s EV revolution operates under his Justice40 Initiative which requires at least 40% of all federal government investments to flow to “disadvantaged communities that are marginalized, underserved, and overburdened with pollution.” The president signed an executive order within days of taking office to allocate unprecedented public funds to poor minority communities in the name of environmental justice. And there is 60 billion dollars in the Inflation Reduction act for “environmental justice”. It’s just more DEI B.S. and it seems no one can define exactly what “environmental justice” is and there are no statistics on how many people in those marginalized, underserved, and over polluted areas drive EV’s or even where those areas are.

    But you can rest assured that all that money will likely go to Democrat supporters and businesses like the Proterra EV electric bus company that Biden and Harris raved about and is featured in this article. That company is now bankrupt after the government subsidies dried up but not until Democrats “in the know” made tons of money in the stock price run up from all that government money. Like our nation’s Energy Secretary, Jennifer Granholm, who made 1.6 million dollars off that Proterra stock before they went belly up. If you don’t believe me, go look it up. I call it a “pump and dump” scheme where, even with a failed business, owners and politicians can make millions. That and trading on illegal “insider information” is why so many politicians get rich in mediocre paying jobs. Since 2020, 78 members of Congress have been accused of insider trading but none have ever been charged or arrested and the Democrats blocked proposed legislation to prevent any Congressman from trading stocks while in office. And, oh yeah, on a side note almost every Democrat also voted to block the Republican “Save Act” and killed the bill to prevent illegals from voting. The only way to stop this massive corruption is to vote every marxist, corrupt Democrat out of office.
