Gregg Jarrett Explains Why Public ‘Still Feels The Impact’ Of Biden’s Economy Despite Recent Uptick Under Trump
Fox News legal analyst Gregg Jarrett said Friday that Americans continue to feel the aftershocks of the Biden-era economy, even as key indicators improve under President Donald Trump.
Trump oversaw strong U.S. economic growth during the third quarter of 2025 and advanced pro-growth policies, including extending tax cuts, recalibrating trade through tariffs, and streamlining the federal workforce. Jarrett said on “The Evening Edit” that years of elevated inflation under the previous administration left a deep imprint on household finances, one that does not fade simply because the data has turned.
“I will say this, that Trump has been dealing, I think, with a Joe Biden economic hangover that people suffered for so long, inflation reaching historic highs of 9%, slowly coming back down, but accelerating once Trump took office, that I think they still feel the impact of it all,” Jarrett told Elizabeth MacDonald. “But if you look at the numbers, the economy has improved tremendously. And, you know, nine days ago, the new year, we would have been paying higher taxes, every American, but Trump passed the Big, Beautiful Bill, which made permanent the tax cut.”
Jarrett also dismissed MSNBC host Rachel Maddow’s claim that Trump lagged nearly every modern president in polling, saying the data plainly contradicts it.
“I listened to her and I’m sort of, what planet do you live on? Just about everything she said was fundamentally wrong and demonstratively untrue. And you can put up the numbers. Anybody can look up at the numbers,” Jarrett said.
Recent Trump polling shows strength on the economy, with RealClearPolitics data showing job-approval above 50% in multiple surveys, including 53% in Harvard-Harris and similar results from CNN and NPR/PBS/Marist. Trump’s overall approval has also inched higher, with a Reuters/Ipsos poll putting him at around 42% in early January 2026.
Meanwhile, Democrats face mounting voter dissatisfaction, with CNN chief data analyst Harry Enten saying in December that congressional Democrats have fallen to record-low popularity. He cited a Quinnipiac University national survey showing just 18% approval and 73% disapproval, calling the drop on CNN News Central a sharp decline since October.
