Mamdani’s Grand Experiment Dead After 31 Days

Socialists and Communists from coast to coast were out of their minds at the thought of the greatest city on earth under Communist control. It had them salivating, but it all came crashing down like a January thaw. From a seedy start in a deserted underground subway station at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve to a somber, embarrassing press conference on January 31, Communism came and went. A $12B budget shortfall will do that when your plan was to give away the house.

Mamdani called it a fiscal crisis. No, New York City is broke, and his plans are up in smoke. In 2020, before COVID and Biden’s Inflation, NYC had a $5M surplus. Not a huge number, but in the black. Then the floodgates of illegals began arriving at the rate of 10K a month, all looking for rooms at 5-Star hotels and whatever social welfare programs they could get. They drained the city dry, and Mamdani should have done his homework. Somebody had already taken the house, the car, and even the dogs. His programs are going to cost at least $10B. So, Mamdani has a math problem, and a reporter asked him outright, are your programs dead? He said no. He claims that you cannot let the failures of the past destroy the dreams of the future, so just keep on spending money the city does not have.

New York is a Tale of Two Cities: the haves and the have-nots. You have those who can afford NYC at any price and those who cannot sign up for enough welfare programs. The middle class has died or moved away. Mamdani plans to tax the rich to pay for his giveaways. He could probably take every dime from the New York elite and still not have enough.

Despite his announcement, he still went ahead with his free daycare program this week, and not just for NYC residents. His program will be free for every child in NYC, regardless of whether the family is here legally or not. Where the hell are the funds coming from to pay for this freebie? Not from Kathy Hochul. She will not give him any more funds and will not let him raise taxes. The people of New York outside the five boroughs have spent enough on foolish city programs. Good old Kathy is playing a little hardball with the Commie. He is not going to get any bailout money from Trump, especially if Mamdani wants to keep New York a Sanctuary City.

The Right knew that this plan was follie, but nobody could have predicted it being dead in a month. Mamdani has a serious problem: as he does not have the free programs to dangle in front of his lemmings. He is going to have to govern his way out of this mess, and if he has to play it straight, he’s done. Mamdani and his gang of Communists are not people with the expertise to govern. They are promisers and givers of other people’s stuff. He is not a legitimate politician. He is Mr Freebie.

The state of New York, and the rest of the country, for that matter, has a problem. The Big Apple is rotten, broke, and there is no plan to get it back on track. The question is, how do we work around a feckless city administration for four years to keep them from digging the hole even deeper to bury the carcass? Nobody has an answer. Will the voters of New York learn from this? Absolutely not. We have the most ignorant voters imaginable in this country, and the Left’s solution to that is to allow illegals to vote and lower the legal voting age to 16. Remember those weekend trips to the City for a play and dinner? Change of plans. Order out and binge-watch Netflix. It is a sad story, but we have nobody to blame but ourselves for this mess.
