Hochul Says She’s ‘Excited’ for Democratic Subpoenas and Hearings to Tie Up Trump

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul says she is “excited” about the prospect of a Democratic Congress tying up President Trump’s final two years with investigations, hearings and subpoenas if her party wins next week.

Hochul made the remarks in an interview with Politico published Tuesday while weighing Democrats’ chances of retaking not only the House but also the Senate in the Nov. 3 midterm elections.

“We are hoping for the House, but to get the Senate on top of it, next level, game-changing, extraordinary,” Hochul said, in comments highlighted by Fox News on Wednesday. “So, I’m excited about this.”

“When you talk about Trump’s next two years with that Democratic House and Senate, hey, guess what? There’s investigations, there’s hearings, there’s subpoenas, there’s questioning,” the Democratic governor continued.

She said Democrats would use the spotlight to stop Trump’s “‘flood the zone’ strategy of doing so much bad stuff in such a short time that you can’t even keep track of it.”

“So that’s going to tie things up,” Hochul said, describing a wave of congressional oversight committees, subcommittees and commissions aimed at stopping “the corruption” and “the abuse” she alleges in the administration.

Republicans Pounce

White House spokesperson Lauren Bis said, “Democrats have no agenda to improve the lives of Americans—their only agenda is to continue their decade-long witch hunt against President Trump.”

“The choice has never been clearer: doubling down on President Trump’s winning, commonsense agenda or the Democrats’ obstruction,” Bis added in her statement to Fox News Digital responding to the governor.

New York Republican State Committee communications director David Laska said Hochul “said the quiet part out loud,” admitting Democrats would use Congress “to thwart the President’s agenda with phony hearings and investigations.”

Laska said Hochul should worry more that New York “continues to lead the nation in outmigration because she keeps us the most taxed, least affordable, least free state in the nation.”

Hochul also said she hoped to work with Trump on “legacy projects” in his home state, chief among them nuclear power. “I want to power this state with what’ll ultimately be low-cost, reliable power,” she said.

“I committed that we’re going to build more nuclear in New York than the entire country has in the last 30 years. I need the president. I have a proposal before him now,” Hochul said.

Hochul is seeking a second full term against Republican Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman. A Siena College poll of likely voters released Wednesday shows her leading 54% to 40%.

That is up from a 50% to 41% edge in September, amNewYork reported. The Oct. 19–22 survey of 807 likely voters has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.1 percentage points.
