Poll: Only 39% think Illegal Aliens with Kids should ‘Stay in the Country’

A recently published Harvard-Harris poll revealed that 39% of registered voters in the United States believe that illegal aliens with kids “should stay in the country.” On the contrary, 61% of registered voters in the United States believe that illegal aliens with kids should be “sent home.”

In the survey of 1,488 registered voters, Harvard-Harris asked, “Do you think that parents with children who make it across our border illegally should be allowed to stay in the country or sent home?”

Just 39% of respondents said “stay in the country” compared to 61% of respondents who said, “sent home.”

It’s important to note the results come from a month in which the Trump administration has taken extreme criticism for his enforcement of the ‘zero tolerance’ policy along the southern border. The Harvard-Harris poll reveals that a majority of respondents did not want illegal aliens with kids to stay in the country but instead sent home.

This survey was conducted online within the United States from June 24-25, 2018 among 1,448 registered voters by The Harris Poll. The results reflect a nationally representative sample. Results were weighted for age within gender, region, race/ethnicity, marital status, household size, income, employment, political party, political ideology, and education where necessary to align them with their actual proportions in the population. Propensity score weighting was also used to adjust for respondents’ propensity to be online.
