Did Accountability Die a Slow Painful Death in America

I remember the spring and summer of 1973 vividly. I was on our yearly family vacation to Florida when I got sunstroke on the first day, and I was confined to bed for the two-week trip to Panama City. I also remember spending each day glued to the TV watching the Watergate Hearings. It has been over 50 years since that black stain cast itself over our government, and in addition to President Richard Nixon resigning as a result of his actions against the American people, though not until August of 1974, and Vice President Agnew resigning over unrelated bribery charges, the fallout was enormous. In total, 69 people were charged with crimes in connection with Watergate, including two of Nixon’s Cabinet secretaries, and most were convicted or pleaded guilty. Ultimately, 48 people were convicted of crimes related to the scandal, including some for conspiracy, obstruction of justice, perjury, burglary, wiretapping, and distributing illegal campaign literature. Twenty corporations also pleaded guilty to making illegal campaign contributions. Some high-powered men, from inside the White House, the Justice Department, and the FBI, fell in disgrace for their part in the events centered around the break-in at Democratic Party offices at the Watergate Hotel and the subsequent cover-up. The actions by Congress over five decades ago may have been the last example of real accountability in American history. We have had impeachments of Presidents since, but many will argue those were over petty, political circumstances. But nobody has paid the price for the known and suspected crimes that have occurred since, and maybe that has been the example that gave birth to the plethora of crimes and activities, the corruption and fraud that we are witnessing by not only government officials, but also everyday citizens and illegals. The American people are frustrated by the hours and tax dollars wasted by this feckless government to hold hearings, but with really nobody of significance held accountable for their sins against America.

Set aside the political garbage that we know exists in the swamp called Washington, D.C. One only has to look at the National Debt to see the reality of the corruption and fraud that has consumed every level of government. In 1973, America was concerned about the debt, which stood at under $500 Billion. Few have even batted an eye as that number has increased beyond comprehension to over $37 Trillion, that is trillion with a “T”. In the hour it takes me to write this article, the debt will increase by $307.98 million. That is $5.13 million per minute, or $85,550 per second. All the taxes and tariffs you can imagine will never be enough to put a dent in that number, and it could be what brings America to her knees without a single shot ever being fired by her adversaries.

It is only because of the work of a few independent journalists, who were just writers like me a short time ago, but with far more energy and courage, who are doing the work necessary to uncover the massive fraud and corruption that is going on at the state and city levels all across the land. It seems irrational to say that this problem is more prevalent on one side of the political spectrum, but the actions and inaction of one side lend credence to that irrational belief.

Just a few examples:

  1. President Trump appointed Elon Musk to head a group to investigate internal waste in the government and to shut down departments and agencies whose main purpose was to waste money, but the Left challenged and shut down the group in court.
  2. After the massive fraud perpetrated in Minnesota against government welfare programs by the Somali community, and ignored by local and state officials, was uncovered by YouTuber and social media activist Nick Shirley, those same Somali people are suing the government for reparations because of the treatment caused by ICE while investigating this corruption.
  3. When Nick Shirley turned his attention to California, he was stopped by the courts because the Leftist state officials wanted his actions stopped, but not the fraud and corruption happening in their state.
  4. In Maine, another hotbed for Somali fraud, independent journalist Steve Robinson has been shut out of most government hearings in an effort by the Progressive Maine officials to put a lid on and stop Robinson’s investigation.
  5. Just this week, the Senate held hearings where CIA whistleblowers were testifying about the actions of the CIA and officials like Anthony Fauci who were committing and covering up crimes against the American people that resulted in our rights violated, our lives being put on hold, the education of a generation of children halted, and the Democrats boycotted the hearings in a show of unity against effforts by the Right to uncover corruption during and since the Pandemic.

People on the Left want to talk about racism and white supremacy being systemic in this country, which is an unmitigated lie. But they choose to ignore and confront any effort to uncover the fraud and corruption that is clearly systemic and is destroying our country from within. And Americans continue to wait for someone to be held accountable. I fear we will be waiting for some time.
