White House Watch: Trump Campaigns in Kansas, Signs Women’s Health Order, Floats Putin-Xi Summit

Trump traveled to Kansas on Monday afternoon for a midterm rally near Wichita backing Republican Sen. Roger Marshall, who is in a closely watched reelection race. The Trump 47 Committee scheduled the event for 4:30 p.m. Central. AP described the trip as an effort to win over farm voters. KMBC and the Wichita Eagle reported that hecklers interrupted the rally, and that Trump called them paid protesters.

Before leaving Washington, Trump signed an executive order titled “Advancing Women’s Health to Improve Outcomes in All Phases of Life.” According to HHS, the order tells the department to set up a new Women’s Health Division within the National Institutes of Health within 90 days. HHS said the division will study conditions that uniquely or disproportionately affect women, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, autoimmune disorders, endometriosis, infertility, maternal health, menopause and osteoporosis. The order also creates a White House Women’s Health Task Force, co-chaired by HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.

First Lady Melania Trump, who backed the initiative, said at the White House that “our generation will fight to discover the cures that will ensure a woman can live her life in health and to the fullest.” She laid out what she called five pillars. They include targeted research funding, the use of advanced AI to speed discoveries, faster development of therapies, affordable access to treatment, and more open conversation about women’s health. NIH Director Jay Bhattacharya said the division would help “close lingering evidence gaps.”

On foreign policy, CNBC and The Hill reported that Trump said he would be open to meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, including in China, to discuss weapons and denuclearization. In the same remarks he criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as Ukraine peace efforts continue. The comments came as the U.S. conflict with Iran approaches its eighth month without a settlement.

Monday’s schedule also included the Truth Social post urging New Mexico to rename itself “New America” (see the previous story). Vice President JD Vance campaigned in North Carolina the same day, according to NBC News, as both parties focus on control of Congress in the Nov. 3 elections.
