DeSantis Approves Renaming Palm Beach International After Donald Trump

Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday signed legislation renaming Palm Beach International Airport as Donald J. Trump International Airport.

In February, the Florida House and Senate approved the bill—passing it 81-30 and 25-11, respectively—which gives the state authority to name “major commercial service airports” and specifically designates Palm Beach International Airport in honor of President Donald Trump. The airport’s name change will take effect on July 1, pending approval from the Federal Aviation Administration, which the state has contacted for clearance, the Hill reported.

In a post on X, the Republican Party of Florida celebrated the move.

Trump has long made Mar‑a‑Lago in Palm Beach his primary residence, just miles from Palm Beach International Airport. Florida lawmakers cited his residence and prominence in the state as key reasons for renaming the airport in his honor.

A Trump Organization spokesperson, Kimberly Benza, told CNN in February that neither Trump nor his family will collect royalties or licensing fees from the renaming, adding that the organization is “willing to provide this right to his hometown county at no charge.” Palm Beach International Airport handled more than 8 million passengers between May 2023 and May 2024, according to a Palm Beach County press release.
