Iran Attacks Commercial Ships – Trump Revokes Oil License and Unleashes the US Military on Them
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed Tuesday evening that the United States had commenced bombing of Iranian targets after Iran attacked three commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
What Iran Did
Iran’s military – the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) – launched missiles and drones at several commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday. The US Navy was able to intercept some drones, but at least three commercial ships were hit in the attack.
The U.S. Response
Financial
The U.S. Treasury Department said that the license allowing Iran to sell oil on the global market, granted on June 21st, will no longer apply.
Treasury announced that there would be a grace period until July 17th for transactions that were already in motion under the license.
Military
The U.S. military has begun a series of “powerful strikes” against Iran in response to its violation of the cease-fire agreement.
The targets and effectiveness of the strikes have not been made public at the time of publication.
This is a developing story and will be updated as events warrant.
