Jeffries Says No Democrat Has Talked Impeachment, but Colleagues Promise Subpoenas ‘Like Candy’

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said Wednesday that not a single House Democrat has talked to him about impeaching President Donald Trump after the party’s midterm sweep.

“I haven’t had a single member of the House Democratic Caucus talk to me about impeachment,” Jeffries told reporters, the Washington Examiner reported. “We’ve been relentlessly focused on affordability and on accountability because the House is a separate and co-equal branch of government.”

Before the election, Jeffries said Democrats had not ruled impeachment in or out, according to the Examiner. He did not support impeachment inquiries from outgoing Reps. Al Green of Texas and Shri Thanedar of Michigan.

Subpoenas, Not Soft Pedals

While leadership soft-pedals a Trump impeachment, Democrats are already promising a blizzard of oversight.

Incoming Oversight Committee ranking member Robert Garcia advised the president to “LAWYER UP,” and Rep. Emily Randall posted that Democrats are “going to be passing out subpoenas like candy,” the Washington Examiner reported.

New Jersey Rep. Analila Mejia said Democrats will “toss out subpoenas like Mardi Gras beads,” and Sen. Ed Markey said they will need “to plant new forests for all of the subpoenas we’ll be printing,” the Daily Caller reported.

Illinois Rep. Delia Ramirez named Homeland Security and immigration officials, writing “Noem, Markwayne, Miller, Homan, Bovino, what’s up?” and telling them to “Clear your schedule,” according to the Daily Caller.

Jeffries himself left the door open on War Secretary Pete Hegseth. “Is Pete Hegseth still around?” he asked when pressed about past comments on the secretary, the Examiner reported.

Outgoing Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky has filed impeachment articles targeting Hegseth over the Iran war, Maduro’s arrest, boat strikes and Yemen, and Speaker Mike Johnson would need a majority to block a floor vote in the lame duck, according to the Washington Examiner.

CNN reported multiple GOP sources expect Massie’s Hegseth impeachment measure to pass when the House returns next week, according to CNN, even before Democrats take the gavels in January.

Jeffries’ affordability message matches what some Democrats say voters demanded. Party leaders say they must balance probes with the cost-of-living agenda that helped deliver their majorities, ABC News reported in its Hegseth coverage.

Republicans are bracing for weaponized oversight either way. The White House has already signaled it will fight what it calls abusive investigations once Democrats reclaim the committee gavels.

Democrats flipped more than two dozen House seats and at least seven Senate seats in the midterm wave, including races in Texas and Kansas, the Daily Caller reported.

Although some lawmakers have called for impeaching Cabinet officials, Jeffries claimed colleagues have not approached him about it, according to the Daily Caller.

Ramirez said Democrats “will hold every fascist in the administration accountable” and “fight for an affordable country,” promising to “use every tool at my disposal,” the Daily Caller reported.
