Rick Perry Officially Enters the Presidential Race

In a speech at the 2012 Redstate Conference, Texas Governor Rick Perry officially added his name to the list of candidates running for President. Perry made the announcement with about 700 Conservatives in the audience.

The speech started as a rant against big government, big spending, over taxation and a scathing rebuke of the Obama administration. To fix the economy Perry said, “The first page of any economic plan should include pink slips to the current residents of the White House”.

Then came the build-up and announcement “A renewed nation needs a new President” and continued with “It is time to get America working again and that’s why with the support of my family and unwavering belief in the goodness of America, I declare to you today as a candidate for President of the United States.” and the crowd responded with loud applause and chanting “Perry! Perry! Perry!”.

Perry had already announced that he would run in a post on his campaign website titled “Why I’m Running”.

What I learned in my 20’s traveling the globe as an Air Force pilot, our current president has yet to acknowledge in his 50’s – that we are the most exceptional nation on the face of the earth.

As Americans, we believe freedom is a gift from God, and government’s prime function is to defend it.  We don’t see the role of government as a nanny state, and we recognize there is no government money that wasn’t once earned through the sweat and toil of private citizens.

That’s why we object to an Administration that sees its role as spending our children’s inheritance on failed economic theories that have given us record debt and left far too many unemployed, threatening not only our economy, but our security. Our reliance on foreign creditors and sources of energy  not only compromises our national sovereignty, but jeopardizes our national future.

America’s place in the world is in peril, not only because of disastrous economic policies, but from the incoherent muddle known as our foreign policy.  Our president has thumbed his nose at traditional allies such as Israel and Great Britain.

We will not sit back and accept our current misery…because a great country requires a better direction…because a renewed nation requires a new president.  That’s why, with faith in God, the support of my family, and an unwavering belief in the goodness of America, I am a candidate for President of the United States.

And I will work every day to make Washington, D.C. as inconsequential in your lives as I can.

As governor of Texas I have led based on a few guiding principles. One, don’t spend all the money. Two, keep taxes low and under control. Three, keep regulations fair and predictable. And four, reform the legal system so frivolous lawsuits don’t paralyze employers that are trying to create jobs.

Over ten years, we have followed this recipe of fiscal restraint to produce the strongest economy in the nation. While millions of jobs have been lost over the last decade nationwide, hundreds of thousands of jobs have been added in Texas. Texas is home to one in 12 Americans, and yet since June of 2009, we have created more than four in ten American jobs.

The change we seek will never emanate out of Washington…it must come from the windswept prairies of Middle America…the farms and factories across this great land…the hearts and minds of God-fearing Americans who will not accept a future that is less than our past…who will not be consigned a fate of less freedom in exchange for more government.

It is up to us…to this present generation of Americans…to take a stand for freedom…to send a signal to Washington that we are taking the country back from the grips of central planners who would control our healthcare, spend our treasure and micro-manage our businesses.

My mission as your president will be to get America working again!

There is a bit of controversy with the timing of Gov. Perry’s announcement. Iowans are a bit miffed that he may be overshadowing the Iowa straw poll by announcing on the same day as their Ames Straw Poll.

After his speech at the conference in South Carolina, Perry will be headed to New Hampshire to get his first campaign event underway.

  1. This man is a Democrat plant. Rick Perry has been a moderate left leaning Republican since he took over the office from George Bush. I don’t care what he’s done in Texas, it’s been the status quo for years. He has presided over tax increases but hid behind the fact that Texas doesn’t have a income tax, it does have a huge school tax and other taxes that have all gone up. He is like many Republican candidates that were elected in ’08 who were thought to be conservative but who’ve turned out to be chickens when it came to voting against the debt ceiling increase. They went along with Boehner. Perry is saying the things that he knows is what the people want to hear out of a conservative candidate. He knows that we want ObamaCare to be repealed. But as we were lied to by those who ran last November, it can’t be repealed by just the Congress alone. I believed those running for Congress just like many were because I was ignorant about how my own government operates. I didn’t know that the Congress was not able to do many things we were being told that it was. I didn’t ever hear though, that ObamaCare could not be repealed unless the Senate went along with it. But I believe that many people believed that we were going to take the Senate to. If that had happened we would have repealed the health care law. But I don’t remember being told by those who won their Congressional bid, that we were not going to be able to repeal ObamaCare since we didn’t win the Senate as well. We were not told any of that by people like Boehner or anyone. If we were, they didn’t say it very loud well enough for it to have gotten my attention.

This man is a scam. He is not our candidate. Like I have heard today, DON’T PICK ANY CANDIDATE NOW! WE NEED TO WAIT AS LONG AS WE CAN TO PICK OUR CANDIDATE BECAUSE THE LONGER WE WAIT THE LESS TIME THE LEFT MEDIA WILL HAVE TO ATTACK THEM, AND THE MORE CONCENTRATED THE ATTACK ON OBAMA WILL BE FROM ALL THE PEOPLE WHO WILL SUDDENLY GET BEHIND THIS CANDIDATE.

I believe that this is sound advice. And I can see the logic behind this advice in that I know that the liberal media will throw everything they have against this person and it has annilalated others we have seen even so far of people who aren’t running for any office, like Sarah Palin. She has been harrassed for years by the press. I don’t really care what they say about her, the fact remains that they are attacking her years after the election where she lost along with McCain. So why are they still attacking her? I don’t know. But one thing it shows me is that the liberal media has plenty of energy left to expend on anyone we put up as our pick.

SO PICK LATE, LATE, LATE. AS LATE AS WE CAN HOLD OUT. PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS. WE CANNOT LET THE LEFTIST MEDIA TO PICK OUR CANDIDATE THIS TIME. AND THE WAY TO STOP THEM PICKING OUR CANDIDATE IS TO CUT OFF THE MONEY GOING TO THEIR CAMPAIGN FUND. SO DON’T BE FOOLED BY THE PRESS. AND THE WAY TO DO THAT IS TO STOP SENDING YOUR MONEY TO WHO THEY SAY IS OUR CANDIDATE. CUT HIM OFF!!!

  2. What we know is that money talks, and bullcrap walks. We know that money is what wins in politics. The more a person’s face is spread across the country, on TV, in newspapers, magazines, radio, road side billboards, signs in yards, on cars, and flyers handed out to people in the street, and from house to house. The candidate has to have lots of money to set up campaign offices across the nation and the hiring of people to staff those offices costs money. Air time on TV is very expensive. The candidate has to be able to get themselves on talk shows on TV and the radio. Those things cost alot of money.

So send your money to the candidate that will know what to do to get rid of that damage that the Socialist Democrats have done. That is what this candidate will concentrate on, not so much attacking Obama, or some other Democrat who was the cause of the bills that became laws that has done all this damage. We know who these bastards are who’ve destroyed our economy. And it’s going to take a lot of work to repair the damage. So this candidate will know what to do to get rid of the laws, and what the laws pertain to, and what the laws have gotten rid of that needs to be brought back, and what these bad laws have caused damaging our housing market, our banks, our manufacturing and industrial base. We need more young people to build their own businesses that will bring our manufacturing and industries back. Not the ones overseas, but new ones that will make what is being made overseas, and just replace the products made overseas at a lower cost that can compete with the factories overseas. How can they do that without hiring Mexican’s so as to keep costs down? Keeping the unions out for starters, then helping people with housing and transportation costs will be something that our new manufacturing and industry will have to address for something they’ve not done before.

  3. I don’t think I will be able to support Perry. He was a Democrat and Al Gore’s Texas campaign manager, before becoming a Republican in 1989.
While Texas is currently leading the nation in jobs, unemployment in his state has doubled since he took office, standing at about 8.2 percent today.
He proposed the TTC, which would have used excessive imminent domain to seize private property, and allow a foreign company to charge toll on TTC highways. Fortunately the Texas legislature killed it.
He has attended Bilderberg group meetings, a less than transparent organization.

On the other hand he holds many conservative values. Guess I’m on the fence with this guy. I’ll wait and see what he says during the campaign.
