Oklahoma Man Charged With Mailing Hundreds of White Powder Letters to Election Officials

Federal authorities have charged an Oklahoma City man with mailing hundreds of letters filled with white powder to election officials, members of Congress and news outlets before the 2024 and 2026 elections.

Robin Patrick Martin is charged with one count of conveying false information and hoaxes and one count of mailing threatening communications, according to a complaint filed Nov. 1 in the Western District of Oklahoma, USA Today reported.

Martin was arrested Monday and was expected in federal court in Oklahoma City on Tuesday, the Associated Press reported. Court records did not list an attorney who could speak for him.

The powders tested so far turned out to be yeast or flour, the FBI said. Not every letter has been fully tested, but no hazardous material has been found.

Investigators tied more than 700 mailings to the same sender. They went to election officials, lawmakers, pollsters, reporters and federal law enforcement, FBI agent David Cole wrote in an affidavit.

The mailings forced evacuations at election offices in Louisiana and Oklahoma in October. States from Idaho to Florida reported receiving letters or having the Postal Service intercept them.

‘Traitor Elimination Army’

Some letters carried messages written in ink that could be read only under ultraviolet light. The return address read “U.S.T.E.A., United States Traitor Elimination Army, Takoma Park, MD.”

Messages in both rounds warned recipients of coming arrests for treason “or worse!!” One 2024 letter to the Oklahoma State Election Board read, “stay on the right side of history your life might depend on it!” CBS News reported.

According to the affidavit, Martin “described perceived issues with the 2020 election, claimed that President Donald Trump won the 2020 election,” and raised concerns about the same issues recurring in 2024.

Some envelopes used return addresses tied to former headquarters of the Green Party and the Democratic Socialists of America. The FBI said Martin, posing as “George Livingston,” told a DSA email list in October that members could be arrested for treason if they voted.

The DSA helped the FBI with the investigation, the affidavit said. Investigators said a handwriting analysis linked the 2024 letter to the newer batch.

Agents said they found Martin’s fingerprints on a letter addressed to FBI Director Kash Patel, whose first name was written as “Kashyap.” Video showed Martin’s car stopping at mailboxes in Oklahoma City, Dallas and San Antonio in October.

Records show Martin bought supplies for the mailings in August, including ingredients for the invisible ink, CBS reported. The first round of letters reached election officials around Sept. 16, 2024.

The case was handled by the FBI’s Oklahoma City field office, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the U.S. Capitol Police and Oklahoma City police, Fox News reported. The arrest came one day before Election Day.
