Trump: If Democrats Take Congress, ‘I Guess I’ll Become Mr. Veto’

President Donald Trump has a one-word plan if Democrats win both chambers of Congress on Tuesday: veto.

“I guess I’ll become Mr. Veto,” Trump told Miranda Devine on her “Pod Force One” podcast, in an episode set to drop Monday, the New York Post reported.

“And then at some point, we’ll probably make deals. That’s what’s happened. I mean, this wouldn’t be the first time,” he said.

“They’ll be sending stuff up. You veto it,” he went on. “And eventually, after a month or two of getting all vetoed, they’re just wasting [time], they come over, and you make a deal. I think that probably would happen, but hopefully we don’t have to worry about that.”

Trump insisted he still expects Republicans to hold on. “Look, if we didn’t win — I think we’re going to do great — but if we didn’t win, I’d veto everything. I’ll be vetoing, vetoing.”

‘Maybe Forever Destroyed’

Trump warned of what Democrats would try to do with power. “They want to get rid of your Second Amendment, have transgender for everyone,” he said.

He agreed with Elon Musk’s recent warning that a Democratic sweep would leave the country “maybe forever destroyed,” and suggested Democrats would push statehood for Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C., expand the Supreme Court and end the Senate filibuster, the Post reported. Democrats have also promised a wave of investigations into Trump, his administration and his allies if they take either chamber.

Trump has vetoed only two bills in his second term. In his first term, Democrats held the House but not the Senate during his final two years, which kept most liberal legislation off his desk.

The Odds

Forecasters widely favor Democrats to win back the House, while the Senate is closer to a toss-up. Republicans are defending nine competitive Senate seats to Democrats’ three, and Cook Political Report rates races in Alaska, Iowa, Kansas, Ohio and Texas as 50/50, according to the Post. The Washington Examiner listed Michigan, Ohio, Texas and Maine among the closest Senate contests.

Republicans hold the House 218-214 and the Senate 53-47, so Democrats need a net gain of four seats in each chamber. White House aides including Stephen Miller and budget director Russ Vought have been preparing executive actions since April on immigration, tariffs, housing and spending in case Republicans lose control, The Independent reported, citing Reuters.

Trump also acknowledged Democrats will call him a lame duck and said he wishes he could run again. “I’d love to run again if I had the chance, but the language is very exacting,” he said of the 22nd Amendment. “You know, we have more than two years left. That’s a long time.”
